What Is The Source Of My Window Leaks?

by Roofer911.com

window leakIt’s raining outside, and ugh, it’s raining inside too and it seems to be coming from window leaks! When you go to investigate, water seems to be dripping from the sill, but where is it coming from? It may seem like it is just coming in under the window, but when you really start looking, it isn’t. Now what to do?

This is when it is good to call in a roofing contractor to investigate these kind of leaks. When they come out, they will be searching backwards to find the source of the leak. It may require prying the trim off the window. As they follow the leak, don’t’ be surprised if they ask to go up into your attic. When they come back to you with the answer that you need roof repair, trust their experience.

Water’s unique properties of cohesion and adhesion means where you see water is not necessarily where it came from. Often, a window leak is really coming from your roof! As it comes in, it can work it’s way down and across things in search of the lowest spot. As it follows what it is drawn to, some of those routes could involve all the complicated layers around the window structure.

Once they fix the leak source, additional repairs may be needed inside, depending on how long the leak has been happening hidden behind the wall. Surprising but true, often, fixing your roof can fix the source of window leaks.
