Soffit vents are important components for homeowners to consider for their roof. Many attic and roof ailments go away by making sure that your roof is adequately ventilated. You have a choice of installing either round vents or continuous vents. Their function is to allow condensation and moisture to escape from the attic, which protects the roof from suffering from mold, mildew and dry rot. This occurs from the extreme overheating and rapid cooling which can happen during both summer and winter months. Each style has its own benefits and problems.
Round Vents
Round vents for your soffits tend to stick out and interrupt the flow of the roof as well as suffer more damage during stormy weather. Being able to fit the round shape in your attic is the first requirement for installing them. They are also not as powerful as the continuous style. On a positive note, the round vents are actually easier to install and less expensive. That means you may be able to let your roofer have a holiday, unless you make a total mess and he has to come and perform a roof replacement for you.
Continuous Vents
Roofing companies often recommend the continuous style because the more ventilation to your attic, the better for your roof. They are more expensive, but they also can extend the natural longevity of your roof, which means thousands of dollars saved. They are more complicated to install so the best thing you can do for yourself and your roof is to call your roofer and have him install the soffit vents for you.
