A roof fan is a very important part of keeping your utility bills low and extend the life of your roof. If your roof has dark shingles or a steep angle, more heat can be created or stored in the space, so you will need more airflow. For dark shingles, multiply by 1.15, and for a steep roof, multiply your minimum CFM by 1.2 to get a final minimum CFM.
Now it's time to hit the home improvement store. Using this final figure as a minimum, see what is available in your price range. If you have two or three to decide amongst, choose the one with the larger CFM. More is better in this case. With appropriate ventilation from a correctly sized roof fan, that excess heat will clear out of the attic and you will see lower utility bills and your roof will live a long and happy life.
