None of us appreciates a hole through roof materials, but how hopping mad would you be if it happened because something dropped from the sky and hit your house? It does happen from time to time.
In September of 2011a Petaluma, CA residents was going about her business when she and other family members were startled by a very loud "bang" coming from overhead. The sound was so loud, even the neighbors came running to find out what happened. They could scarcely believe what they discovered. On the ground, under a gaping hole near the edge of the roof was a pile of mangled metal and glass - all that remained of a 2 lb piece of camera equipment.
The home owner and her friends identified it as a 9-inch Canon 24-105mm camera lens. They had no idea how it could have fallen from the sky. The woman that owned the house hoped she would be able to recover the $1,000 deductible on her insurance. The piece of technology that smashed through the house caused thousands of dollars in roof repair.
It was reported that the police were attempting to locate the owner of the camera lens though the serial number. They also intended to contact the authorities at the local airport to find out if it could have fallen from a plane.
More than being angry, the home owner was shocked by the hole through roof shingles on the house. She was also grateful nobody was hurt and that the flying object an elementary school nearby.
