DIY roof repair is a tricky and never ending job. The less you know, the more dangerous you are to yourself and your home. You may think it’s just a small thing to fix, you’ve watched some internet videos, and it will be quick and easy. A little knowledge and ego go a long way toward making you overconfident and soon you’re tackling a roof repair all by yourself.
Doing it yourself can be an ongoing job because you may not be doing things correctly, so the leaks aren’t really fixed. You just don’t know it till it rains again. Ego can also get involved because you’re not doing a cost analysis. You think, I only need one or two tools I don’t have yet. You do one fix, then the fix of the fix. If you add up all the time it takes to do it once, then do it again, times your hourly rate. And the cost of buying new tools. Don’t forget those extra tools that you couldn’t pass up at the hardware store when you were shopping. It also took longer to do because, without experience, you probably got the wrong tools, so that made it more awkward.
Sometimes it’s just cheaper and quicker to call a professional roofer. They’ve spent years learning, buying tools, and tossing out what doesn’t work. They can do it much faster than you can. Meanwhile you could be kicking back watching TV while they do your diy roof repair for you.
