Corrugated Plastic Roofing has its pros and cons. Your choices are either plastic or metal. There are basic qualities for each that make them better for your project. Primarily, if you live in a region that gets extreme heat, your roofer will probably not recommend the plastic because it does not handle heat well which could mean an early roof replacement job. Other than that, plastic has a number of benefits compared to metal corrugated roofing.
Plastic is more durable in that it is not as flimsy as metal. Its greater weight and less flexibility provide a higher level of protection in extreme weather conditions with high winds. The fact that it is less likely to flap in the breeze is a good thing because the plastic corrugated sheets are more likely to chip. Should a corner get dinged when being handed up to install, you run the risk of ruining the entire sheet because it a small chip can turn into a large crack the whole length of the board.
The weight of the plastic board makes it a bit more difficult to handle if you are trying to install it your self. However, the greater security and aesthetic value of the plastic tends to outweigh that challenge. The plastic allows light through so that if being used for a corner shed, porch or other structure without windows, the natural light enhances. More attractive than metal, to change the color, you can use special paint for corrugated plastic roofing.
