When it's Time to Replace Roof Shingles

There are many reasons why you might be faced with the job of replacing some of your roof shingles. Sometimes the roofing material is just nearing the end of its life expectancy and is wearing out with age. In other cases, normal wear and tear on the roof will cause damage to the shingles. In severe cases, the roofing material underneath the shingles may be damaged as well.

If you have experienced damage to your roof shingles, that damage could result in water leaking into your home, which could cause even more problems with your home's interior. That is precisely why roof shingle replacement is an important part of regular maintenance to your home, to ensure that your roof stays water tight and protects your house from the top down.

To ensure that water leaking and damage doesn't occur, it is also a good idea to inspect your roof shingles once or twice a year for signs of damage. You can do this job on your own – as long as you don't have a problem with ladders and heights! Or you can hire the services of a professional roofing contractor who is trained to detect and resolve any problems with your roof shingles before they become a bigger problem inside your home. Another sign that roofing material may need to be replaced is a collection of granules in your gutters and water spout that may mean the mineral surface is wearing away on your shingles. This situation would also warrant a call to a contractor for a check of the roof's condition.

Replacing a single roof shingle is not necessarily a difficult task, but there are some specific tools that are needed and there is a legitimate concern for one's safety when it comes to working high above the ground. This risk may be compounded if you have a roof with a steep pitch, but even flat roofs can pose a hazard if the right caution is not taken.

If you decide to replace roof shingles on your own, make sure to follow basic safety guidelines like only working with ladders in good condition, climbing up and down one rung at a time and heeding electrical lines and other potential hazards that are lurking nearby. It is also a good idea to keep a buddy with you at all times, in case you need any kind of assistance during the task. If the idea of collecting numerous tools and supplies and spending the better part of an afternoon high above the ground is not appealing to your, perhaps the services of a professional contractor who can do the job for you is more attractive.

Your roof is an important factor in protecting your home from the elements and damage due to water – too important to trust the job of roof shingle replacement to just anyone. We here at roofer911 understand that, which is why we promise the highest quality of service and workmanship that you can find anywhere.
