A shingle roof may be in need of repair for a variety of reasons. Whether it be improper installation, seal failure or weather damage, you will want to make sure that your roof is in good condition. Ultimately, the roof protects us from all of the outside elements and it’s very important to maintain it’s structure. If there is a problem, consider a few options to get your roof back in tact. If you have a fear of heights or climbing onto the roof, you may want to call a professional. Otherwise, strap on your tool belt and let’s get to work.
If you’re going to approach the job yourself, you will need to choose a day that does not have rain in the forecast. If possible, select a day that is also warm as this will help the shingles to be more flexible whereas cold weather may cause them to crack. If you need to replace a shingle completely, begin by removing the damaged shingle, along with any remaining nails, using a hammer. It’s important to remember that when bending the shingles back, above the damaged piece, you should use extra care not to damage others nearby. The next step is to cut the new shingle to an exact size match of the one being replaced. Finally, slide the new shingle into place and secure it with nails.
